our priorities

The Illinois State University Education Association is a union of Non-Tenure Track employees at Illinois State University, affiliated with the Illinois Education Association (IEA). The primary mission of the ISUEA is to advance educational excellence and equity at ISU.  We carry out this mission with the following priorities:

optimal teaching conditions equals optimal learning conditions

Non-Tenure Track faculty represent 40% of the faculty at Illinois State. We bring to the classroom a variety of experiences and a valuable perspective that supports student learning every day! Part of our mission is to maintain the educational excellence ISU students deserve. We believe this excellence is a function of the fair treatment and equity enjoyed by ISU non-tenure track faculty.

advocacy, equity, due process

Through binding collective bargaining agreements enforceable by law, the ISUEA has created ISU policies that improve our teaching conditions and employment policies. There remain areas still in need of improvement, and our goals are to further enhance our decision-making on campus, address problems of inequity, confront arbitrary or unilateral action, and work toward parity with peer institutions. When necessary, we utilize binding neutral third-party arbitration as the final avenue of appeal in grievance proceedings.

Our labor contract has expired, and we are currently underway with negotiations to bargain for a new contract. [View our current contract here.] The bargaining team is working to ensure that the NTT faculty are valued and recognized with improved compensation and optimal teaching conditions. The more members we have, the stronger our voice is at the bargaining table. We invite you to join today. Get involved. Invest in your future and help to achieve excellence in the education of our students. You do have a voice, and becoming a member truly helps us to help you.

your role

We know from our own teaching experience that success comes when students are fully engaged. The same imperative applies to you as faculty. You do have a voice, and becoming a member truly helps us to help you.

mission partners

We fully endorse the ISU’s Educating Illinois mission to “promote the highest academic standards in our teaching, scholarship, public service and the connections we build among them." The ISUEA will defend academic freedom and the right to criticize without reprisal.

The ISUEA, in coalition with our administrators and board, our students, other campus educators, other campus workers, and the general public, will fight to ensure the future of accessible, affordable public higher education, the vital foundation for a healthy and just democratic society, while also promoting the economic and general welfare of Non-Tenure Track faculty at Illinois State University.
